Remembering Together
Co-Creating Covid Community Memorials
About the Project
Remembering Together is a project to co-create memorials that will honour the people we have lost, mark what has been lost and changed in our lives and preserve the best of what we have learned and created together during the Covid pandemic.
Remembering Together commissioned Artists in all 32 local authority areas in Scotland to co-create with communities.
Christina Inkster was the commissioned artist for the Shetland Isles.
Over a period of 6 months Christina Inkster met with members of the Shetland community across the isles, sharing in conversation and creativity, considering what they may want from a Covid memorial: a memorial that recognises our diverse community; a memorial that honours all experiences; a memorial that commemorates the positive, negative and indifferent impacts of Covid and the pandemic on our lives.
What do the communities want?
The Shetland community would like something practical that will support them to continue living within their communities: sharing spaces and spending time with the people in their lives that are important to them, in the places that are important to them.
